Your home in St. Moritz

A HOUSE WITH A HISTORY THAT COULD TELL STORIES:
THE "SOLDANELLA" IN ST. MORITZ.

"Your home in St. Moritz" is Urs Degiacomi's slogan for the Hotel Soldanella. It has been family-owned since 1972 - the natural warmth and charming hospitality create an informal atmosphere that makes you feel at home.

It's not the international jet set that comes and goes at this 3-star hotel. But it is a special breed of people who like to stay at the "Soldanella" time and time again. New arrivals who fit into the family immediately feel at home. Numerous Cresta riders belong to this "Soldanella" family, as the photo gallery in the "Zoo Bar" testifies. In winter, the almost 3-metre-high plush polar bear in the entrance hall also carries a skeleton sledge under his arm.

What doesn't change throughout the year is the atmosphere in the hotel: the Art Nouveau building evokes romantic memories of the pioneering years of tourism. The breathtaking view from the terrace - of the lake and the three-thousand-metre peaks of the Upper Engadine - immediately dispels the aftershocks of a long night of partying at breakfast. And if not, then a "Bloody-Bloody-Mary" - a specialty of the "Zoo-Bar", also available in the morning (afterwards) on request - will do the trick. Or you can enjoy the "Yemaya SPA" wellness area, furnished with fine materials and featuring an aroma grotto, steam bath and sauna. Massages can be booked on request.

Endless reasons
to stay in St. Moritz
to stay longer

St. Moritz is one of the most famous vacation resorts in the world. Chic, elegant and exclusive, with a very cosmopolitan ambience.
St. Moritz lies at 1856 meters above sea level in the middle of the Upper Engadin lake landscape.
The famous St. Moritz sun shines on average 322 days a year!
Our health resort is located on the southern side of the Alps. St. Moritz originally owes its importance to its healing springs, which have been known for over 3000 years.
In addition to its beautiful location above and beside the lake, St. Moritz offers an attractive mix of nature, culture, sport, activity and tranquillity.

Beautiful lakes

Almost kitschy beauty: the lake plateau between Maloja and St. Moritz characterizes the image of the Engadin water kingdom.

It is a postcard motif, leisure paradise and habitat in equal measure. The beautiful, deep blue Engadin lakes can be discovered on a lake hike or a leisurely stroll.

In addition to the four large and well-known valley lakes, the Engadin also has various small mountain and moorland lakes hidden in the forest or on the mountain.

Bernina - Area

The Bernina region between Morteratsch and Cavaglia has always captivated visitors with its breathtaking beauty.

The focus is on the eternal ice with the unique view of the Bernina massif from the Diavolezza mountain station, the easy glacier access to the Morteratsch glacier via the themed trail or the glacier mills in Cavaglia, which are well worth seeing.

The spectacular Bernina Line of the Rhaetian Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, connects the highlights and makes them easily accessible.

Sports offer

Magical light in the wild yet idyllic high valley, inspiring expanses and a program full of contrasts - that's the mountain summer in St. Moritz.

An unparalleled range of sports is a matter of course in St. Moritz: mountain biking, hiking, golf and water sports à discrétion.

In particular, the varied range of hikes and trails, e-bike tours and the various mountain bike options on bike paths, flow trails and in bike parks make Engadin St. Moritz the perfect vacation destination for sports enthusiasts.

Hiking

The high valley of the Upper Engadine with its varied network of 580 kilometers of hiking trails is a true paradise for hikers.

The archaic nature, characterized by contrasts, can be experienced at first hand when hiking - whether walking along the glittering lakes or on a trekking tour lasting several days.

Vacation region Engadin - St. Moritz

The Engadin St. Moritz vacation region is located on the sunny Alpine side of Switzerland - 1800 m above sea level, on the roof of Europe.

Its sources flow into the North Sea, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, and its "neighbors" are Zurich, Milan and Munich.

Swiss National Park

Unbelievable, but true: at the easternmost tip of Switzerland, the world is still as it was at the time of our great-grandparents. 170 square kilometers of untouched nature, whose development has not been interfered with by humans for over 100 years.

Around 100 years ago, visionaries founded the Swiss National Park and created a unique oasis of nature.

Their plan to establish the first national park in Central Europe in Graubünden was as visionary as it was unique. The area has been protected since 1914. They did not even intervene when a forest fire raged in 1951. Today, over 5000 animal species live in the Swiss National Park. The flora is also remarkably rich, with more than 650 different flowering plants.

Winter hiking

Of course, when everything in the Engadin is covered in deep snow, an even deeper and purer calm returns to our valley.

You will notice this at the latest when you feel every step you take as a loud "crunching of snow": On up to 150 km of well-maintained winter hiking trails, walkers believe they have been transported into a fairy tale.

Ski paradise

St. Moritz - Corviglia, Corvatsch, Diavolezza, Furtschellas, Lagalb stand for breathtaking and unforgettable skiing experiences. 60 modern transport facilities promise 350 km of slopes with guaranteed snow (1800 - 3300 m above sea level).

From the well-known large areas, which offer almost everything, to the smaller, family-friendly village ski lifts, you will find everything in Switzerland's largest snow sports region.

Numerous panoramic restaurants, ski huts and snow bars entice visitors with their ambience and lively après-ski fun.

Olympic bobsleigh run

Experience an adventure of a special kind: take a guest bobsleigh ride on the 1612 m long ice channel from St. Moritz to Celerina. Our cab sponsors make it possible for us to use only the most modern and safest four-man bobsleighs.

Your sled is piloted by an experienced bobsleigh pilot and accompanied by a brakeman. Our cab guests ride in positions 2 and 3. A school for beginners is also offered.

History

Hospitality has been a tradition at Hotel Soldanella for over 100 years. The hotel was planned in 1902 with the sole aim of offering hotel guests a temporary home in the Engadin. The hotel was opened in 1905, at that time still under the name Hotel Calonder.

The building was commissioned and the hotel opened by Jules Calonder from Trin (Bündner Oberland). The trained confectioner had returned to Graubünden in 1880 after years of traveling in France and had settled in Pontresina.

Calonder ran his hotel together with his daughter Anna and her husband Bernhard Tratschin-Calonder until his death. The two bought the hotel in 1929; their son Hanspeter Tratschin took over the management of the hotel after his father's death.

In 1972, local resident Erwin Degiacomi acquired the hotel and renamed it Soldanella. The third Degiacomi generation is now at work: Hotel Soldanella has been run by Erwin Degiacomi's son Urs since 1987.
